Diamonds - The king of the court
May 10, 2006, 10:23 amDiamonds are the popular kids in school. Revered, held up as the standard, and coveted among all the other gems. Where it is placed as a jewel in any of the royal crowns of the world. As seen in the following article by Michael Russell:
The Diamond remains, not only a romantic gem of great beauty, but a legitimate trading item on commodity markets and is an established trade in the world’s toughest financial markets of London and Europe. As a commercial commodity diamonds are very popular because of their controlled value internationally, mainly by De Beers, who held the monopoly for a long time.
Aesthetically, it is because of its purity that it captures immediate attention. There is no other known substance as hard in the mineral world, yet once the stone is cut and faceted it possesses a brilliance which seems to hold the potential for the reflection of all the colors of the rainbow. It is understandably symbolic of human fidelity and truthfulness and of enduring virtues and is expected to demonstrate a commitment to these values at the time when couples become engaged to be married. This custom is so well established, that it is difficult to concede that any other stone will oust it from its supreme status.

Diamonds - How did they get to be that color
May 8, 2006, 12:31 pmWe all know that colored diamonds are among the most beautiful of gems, but how exactly is their radiance of hue actually formed? Find out through the following, by Kathy Abdelhak, article’s exploration:
Did you ever walk into a jewelry store and see blue diamonds, pink diamonds, yellow diamonds, or green diamonds, and wonder how they got to be that color by nature? Yes diamonds come in all of these colors, and more naturally. When a diamond appears colorless, white light or daylight ( all the colors of the spectrum combined) enter the diamond and are all absorbed so no color is reflected back to the eye. Color in diamonds is absorption and reflection of light.
This is caused in three ways:
Diamonds are pure carbon so something else was caught in the stone during the formation of the diamond which changes the absorption spectrum. Take yellow and orange diamonds for example they contain nitrogen while blue diamonds contain boron.
Gray, violet and some green diamonds contain hydrogen. As you can see these are all elements that were caught in the stone during its formation.

Set Me Up: What You Need to Know About Your Diamonds Setting
May 6, 2006, 12:43 pmThe other integral part of a diamond’s presentation, comes through the setting. How many prongs does it have? What is the bands material? Does it compliment the diamond inlaid? All of which, more information is handed to us by the following article by Brock Hammill:
Number of Prongs – How many prongs you get is up to you. The more prongs, the more secure the diamond will be. At the same time I don’t feel that having only four prongs makes your diamond more likely to fall out. It is a matter of taste.
