So what can we do about Conflict Diamonds?

Child.

I saw the film, you know the one I was talking about the other day? And I cried, I admit it… and I’m not ashamed. If you watched that and you didn’t cry then seriously? You’re dead inside. Dead. I said. Dead.

So that got me to thinking… what can we do about blood diamonds? And are there ways we can get the sparkle without making another human being suffer?

Of course there are. Here’s what I thought of so far…

  1. Use vintage diamonds or buy pre-owned ice. This was you still get the bling from a diamond that has already been processed. Recyling, you dig?
  2. Use diamond substitutes like cubic zironias or mossanites.Get the shine without the aristocrat fine.
  3. Buy diamonds from countries that partcipate in the Kimberly Process.”The Kimberley Process is a joint government, international diamond industry and civil society initiative to stem the flow of conflict diamonds - rough diamonds that are used by rebel movements to finance wars against legitimate governments.”

I know it’s not an extensive list. But I’m working on it. My belief is that we can have diamonds and be socially conscious.
